Two things to do before having your home repainted

If you are planning to hire a professional painting crew to repaint the rooms of your home, there are a couple of things you should do before booking their services. Read on to find out what these things are.

Try out several paint samples

Before you have your home repainted, it is essential to select the right paint colours. If you choose a shade which you later find to be unsuitable, you will have to endure the cost and hassle of getting the room painted a second time. As such, make sure to order several paint samples for each room.

It is important not to your decision immediately after adding swatches of each sample to the wall, as most paint colours tend to darken slightly after they have fully dried. Given this, you should wait at least two to three days to evaluate each shade (as this is usually how long it takes for paint to completely dry).

Additionally, make sure to check the colour of each paint swatch both during the day and in the evening, as certain shades that look beautiful under the light of the sun can look far less pleasant under artificial light (and vice versa).

Remove clutter from the rooms that are being painted

It is vital to remove all clutter from the rooms which are to be painted before the painting crew arrives.

De-cluttering these rooms will serve two purposes; firstly, it will eliminate the possibility of the painters accidentally damaging one of your valuable possessions as they carry out their work. They won't, for example, knock over an expensive vase whilst moving their ladder, or spill paint on a costly piece of furniture.

Secondly, it will enable the painters to carry out their work easily, without having to waste their time and energy moving things out of the way in order to gain access to specific parts of the room. This, in turn, will speed up the painting process and ensure that work gets done quickly and efficiently.

If there certain items which are too large and heavy to take out of a room (such as a sofa or a tall bookcase, for example), the best thing to do is to position them in the centre of the space, as far away from each of the walls as possible, so that they won't get in the painters' way. Then, cover them with plastic sheeting, to protect them from paint splatters.
